Schistocerca gregaria

The onset of an influx of these omnivores was experienced at Ponta do Pargo, the westernmost tip of the island. Tens (if not hundreds) were flying around here, and some were even seen flying off into the Atlantic. A few days later we also saw many on the isle of Porto Santo, and the beach there showed the left-overs of those that had perished during their crossing to these isles.
