Southern Scrub Flycatcher
Sublegatus modestus

By far the toughest group of birds to identify in South-America is formed by the New World Flycatchers (Tyrannidae). Although several of these may be straightforward when it comes to species determination, many are much less so. However, good views and in particular recording of the sounds usually solve most of the problematic 'mystery flycatchers'.
The Southern Scrub Flycatcher shown here, for instance, was only identified as such after matching the recorded 'song' with the description in The Birds of South America by RS Ridgely and G Tudor.
